The Catholic Church has always recommended the venerable and ancient practice of offering sacrifices for the relief and deliverance of the suffering souls in purgatory. The most efficacious of all sacrifices is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. "To assist the souls in purgatory," says Saint Francis de Sales, "...is to practice in a sublime manner all the works of mercy together."
The Society was founded at Blessed Sacrament Church in 1998 and since its inception has been blessed with members from throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. We are pleased to be associated in our Spiritual Union of Prayer with the Benedictine Nuns of the Congregation of Solesmes, O.S.B. at the Monastery of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Westfield, Vermont.
The purpose of the Society is to promote prayer and the offering of Masses for the souls in purgatory. The society has placed its mission under the protection of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the patronage of Saint Joseph. The Apostolic Blessing of Pope Saint John Paul II and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI have been conferred on the Society's members. In addition, the Society has received the Episcopal Blessing of the Most Reverend Salvatore R. Matano and the Most Reverend Kenneth A. Angell. Twelve Masses are offered annually at Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe, Vermont, for the Society's deceased members.
For the glory of God and in thanksgiving for His Blessings, members of the Society pledge to have one Mass celebrated annually for the souls in purgatory. The Mass may be offered in one's home parish or the missions. We invite you to enroll in the Society either by mail to PO Box 27 or by email to: [email protected].

"If it were but known how great is the power of the good souls in purgatory with the heart of God, and if we knew all the graces we could obtain through their intercession, they would not be so much forgotten. We must, therefore, pray much for them, that they may pray much for us."
~Cure of Ars, Patron Saint of Parish Priests, Saint Jean Marie Vianney
